The River Oise in Summer
Oil on canvas: 23 ½ by 28 3/4 ins. / 60 x 73 cm
Signed lower left: P Vogler
With a brilliant summer sun streams across the river, Vogler here looks more to the example of the later Barbizon school, with less direct reference to the work of Sisley. The intense light, and strong colors are reminiscent of another Vollard artist, Renoir, and demonstrate the artist’s susceptibility to a broad range of contemporary influence.
